Habitat U

HABITAT U is a residential complex located in San Fransisco, USA. It resides on a plot previously assigned to a grocery store. The project consists of an open ground floor for retail stores, food carts, and a grocery store. The other floors are allocated to residencies with multiple open spaces of whom some are public and others private. Each floor is accompanied by a communal space from a lounge to recording studios, a library and finally communal living apartments.

The idea behind these in-between spaces came from the urge to create a creator space in which residents and non-residents can sit down and enjoy outdoor space designed with different creative aspects in mind. The project also takes a structural aspect with the long cantilevers that lead to outside-the-box structural thinking.

This project was distinguished by the Jury for having one of the best physical models between one hundred and ten students.

The current physical model is being showcased in Kent State University’s Library.
